Why We Don’t Chase High Repetitions in Classical Pilates
In Contrology, repetition is purposeful — never excessive.
Joseph Pilates designed a system where each exercise has a specific number of repetitions. Not random. Not for fatigue. Not to “feel the burn.”
Some movements repeat only a few times.
Others — like The Hundred — build rhythm and endurance within structure.
But the intention is always the same:
• Precision over exhaustion
• Control over momentum
• Integration over isolation
When repetition exceeds control, the exercise loses its integrity.
The goal is not to accumulate numbers.
It is to maintain form, breath, and organization from the first repetition to the last. 🌬️
In Classical Pilates, we do the prescribed work — no more, no less.
Because the method itself is complete.
Not everything done on a Reformer is Pilates and that distinction matters.
High-intensity workouts on Reformers follow a different intention - speed, fatigue, burn, and conditioning. They can be effective as fitness training, but they are not the Pilates method.
Both can exist. Just don’t confuse the names.
Respect the system. Educate clients. Choose consciously.
